Chapter Seven – No More Bad Days

Business owners, lawyers, and strippers alike, we all group our days into one of two categories – good ones and bad ones.

The good days are full of accomplishments, laughs, and praise. The bad days start and end with a sigh and maybe even a shoe caked with dog shit.

We all love the good days, but most of us accept the bad ones “with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain.”

For me, the constant ups and downs were thrilling, until one day I thought…

“How can I stop having ‘bad’ days?”

Step One: It Ain’t Changin’

Don’t hate me for this…

Bad days are a necessary part of life, and more often than not, we need them to kick us in the ass every once in a while if we want to get where we’re going.

If everything was always sunshine and rainbows, we wouldn’t change, life would stagnate, and we wouldn’t appreciate the good ones nearly as much.

And the best part about bad days?

It’s only ONE day.

Push through, have an ice cream cone, cry yourself to sleep if you have to. I promise that tomorrow will be better.

Step Two: Change Perspective

Girls have broken up with me, a life-long friend has gotten sick, and I’ve made bad business decisions. Each one of these events cut me deep. Some of them even made me feel like my life was fucked forever.

Each time, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

It turns out that those girls made room for newer, better ones. That my relationship with my friend got even better. And that those business decisions taught me something that helped take the business to the next level.

If we can get our perspective right, everything else falls into place.

At the Heart of Our Toughest Days Lies Our Biggest Potential for Change

Whether we step in some dog shit on our way to work or our girlfriend leaves us for a window washer, there’s always a way forward.

Although that way forward might seem unclear at the moment, it’s our job to embrace the unknown and move forward with the confidence that we’re headed in the right direction.

Each day is a choice, and the big man upstairs tends to work in some funny ways.
